National Advisory Council About Statement & Mission Statement
The National Advisory Council (NAC) was established by the enactment of the Post-Katrina Emergency Management Reform Act of 2006 to ensure effective and ongoing coordination of Federal preparedness, protection, response, recovery, and mitigation for natural disasters, acts of terrorism, and other manmade disasters. The National Advisory Council advises the FEMA Administrator on all aspects of emergency management. The National Advisory Council incorporates state, tribal, and local governments and private sector input in the development and revision of the national preparedness goal, the national preparedness system, the National Incident Management System, the National Response Plan and other related plans and strategies.

Membership Applications: The National Advisory Council is no longer seeking applications. The deadline to submit applications was March 9, 2012. We are currently reviewing applications and anticipate making an announcement about appointments in late summer. Thank you for your interest in the National Advisory Council.

Membership
The members of the National Advisory Council are appointed by the Administrator, and, to the extent practicable, represent a geographic (including urban and rural) and substantive cross section of officials, emergency managers, and emergency response providers from state, tribal, and local governments, the private sector, and nongovernmental organizations.
