Getting regular exercise is one way to prevent falls and fractures that result from falls. Exercise keeps muscles and bones strong and improves balance. It also helps keep joints, tendons, and ligaments flexible. In turn, your balance and the way you walk may improve, lowering your risk of falling.
Your doctor or a physical therapist can help you plan an exercise program that is right for you. A supervised group program can improve your balance and gait. Doing strength and balance exercises at home can also reduce your risk of falls.
