AU cross country teams compete at Yellowjacket Invitational

The Alfred University men’s and women’s team competed Saturday at the Yellowjacket Invitational meet, hosted by the University of Rochester. The Alfred men, running on an eight-kilometer course, placed 23rd, while the AU women took 22nd on the six-kilometer course.

Athlete of the week

Athlete of the Week
Tony Gai The senior from Burke, VA, had a hand in each of Alfred’s four goals in a 5-4 overtime loss to visiting Marywood. Gai netted a hat trick and assisted on the Saxons’ other goal. He also played solid defense from his midfield position in the Saxons’ 1-0 shutout of host Pitt-Bradford, in which AU outshot the Panthers, 26-6.

Athlete of the Week
Kaitlin Flaherty The freshman from Queensbury, NY, helped the women’s tennis team to a 2-1 record last week, winning both her third singles matches and teaming with senior Melissa Boyer to win both third doubles matches in wins over Pitt-Bradford and Penn State-Behrend.
