Gregory C. Turk

Gregory C. Turk leads the Inorganic Chemical Metrology Group at NIST.  The group is part of NIST’s Analytical Chemistry Division which provides reference measurement methods and standards to enhance U.S. industry's productivity, assure equity in trade, and facilitate sound decision-making regarding human health, safety, and the environment. Research and measurements using mass spectrometry, atomic emission spectrometry, X-ray fluorescence, neutron activation analysis, and electrochemistry are performed by the group which develops and certifies many of NIST’s Standard Reference Materials.

Dr. Turk began his career at NIST in 1976 when it was still known as the National Bureau of Standards. His early career centered around the development of laser spectroscopic methods for trace metal analysis, particularly laser-enhanced ionization spectrometry. His research was devoted to the optimization of the analytical performance of the method though fundamental studies of photoexcitation, collisional processes, and ion-electron mobility in flames.
