DOE is calling on solar installers across the nation to break a significant price barrier that was considered unachievable only a decade ago. The SunShot Prize: Race to the Rooftops will award up to $10 million to teams that demonstrate innovative, sustainable, and verifiable business practices capable of reducing residential solar energy system soft costs from more than $3/W to $1/W.

The State of the Solar Industry Is Strong

SEIA released the "U.S. Solar Market Insight: 2nd Quarter 2012" report this week, showing the second-best quarter for U.S solar installations in history. According to the industry group and GTM Research, the United States now has 5,700 megawatts of installed solar capacity—enough to power more than 940,000 households.

Solar Decathlon Europe Kicks Off Tomorrow

The Solar Decathlon Europe competition is being held Sept. 14–30 in Madrid, Spain. Inspired by the event DOE launched in 2002, this competition challenges 20 collegiate teams to design, build, and operate solar-powered houses.
