PEACHTREE CITY, GA — September 11, 2007 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) recently announced that Dr. Joseph Guiendon will supervise the Department of Defense Dependent Schools (DoDDS)-Cuba, on Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

“DoDDS-Cuba was previously overseen by the New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District Superintendent Dr. Bruce Jeter. He was recently selected to serve as DDESS Deputy Director. As he assumes his new responsibilities this is also a time to reorganize our efforts to ensure efficiencies in delivery of services,” Beraza said. Guiendon, who is the South Carolina/Fort Stewart District Superintendent, will be responsible for its day-to-day oversight, Beraza said. Guiendon is superintendent for the DDESS schools located on Fort Stewart, Ga., Fort Jackson and Beaufort Marine Corps Air Station, both in South Carolina.

Guiendon previously served as superintendent at Robins Air Force Base, GA, Maxwell Air Force Base and Fort Rucker, both in Alabama, as well as assistant superintendent at Fort Bragg, N.C., during his nearly 20 years with the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA). Prior to coming to DoDEA, he served as a teacher, federal programs coordinator and principal with state public schools in New York and Pennsylvania.

He earned his bachelor’s degree and master’s degree in education from Gannon University and his doctorate of education in Curriculum and Supervision from the University of Pittsburgh. Guiendon and his wife, Mary, have a son and a daughter.
