PEACHTREE CITY, GA — September 9, 2010 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools-Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba,) announced today that Dr. Joan Campbell has been named Principal of Antilles High School, Fort Buchanan, Puerto Rico, in the DDESS New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District.

“Dr. Joan Campbell brings a sincere love of education to the task of providing instructional leadership to AHS,” said Mr. Michael Gould, New York/Virginia/Puerto Rico District Superintendent. “Her commitment to instructional experiences focused on success will make a difference for all AHS students.”

A native of New Orleans, LA, Campbell earned her Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Elementary Education from Dillard University, New Orleans, and then taught for three years in the New Orleans public schools. She taught at the Early Childhood level for eight years in the Chicago, Ill., public schools and four years with the Huntington L.I., N.Y. public schools. She began her career with DoDEA in 1972, when she transferred to Puerto Rico when her husband’s job took them there. Campbell earned her Master’s of Science Degree in Administration and Supervision from the University of Bridgeport, Bridgeport, Conn., and her Doctorate of Education in Curriculum, Instruction and Evaluation from the University of Sarasota in Sarasota, FL. She has served as an elementary teacher, assistant principal and principal of Antilles Elementary School.

Campbell and her husband, Dr. Lynn Campbell, have three children who all graduated from Antilles High School. Drs. Lynn, Jr., and Lyle Campbell serve the Washington D.C. and Maryland areas as emergency medicine doctors. Daughter Lauryn Campbell is an assistant principal in the Fairfax County (VA) School System.
