PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 29, 2011 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Mrs. Mary Leinard has been named principal of Randall D. Shughart Middle School, at Fort Bragg, NC, in the North Carolina District.

Leinard most recently served as principal of Yokota Middle School in Japan. She spent 21 years in Japan as both a teacher and an administrator. As a teacher, she taught all grade levels, including elementary classroom, music, AVID, humanities and English. 

"We welcome Mrs. Leinard to the NC district," said Dr. Emily Marsh, North Carolina District Superintendent. "Her curriculum knowledge, paired with her strong commitment to military children, make her the perfect candidate to open Shughart Middle School."  

Leinard earned her Bachelor's of Arts degree in Music from Louisiana Technical University and her Master's of Arts degree in Music Education from Northwestern State University. She and her husband have two grown children and one granddaughter.
