Ferguson Named Maxwell AFB Elementary/Middle School Principal

PEACHTREE CITY, GA — August 16, 2012 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Acting Director and Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Dr. Cynthia Ferguson has been named principal of Maxwell AFB Elementary/Middle School, at Maxwell AFB, Ala., in the Georgia/Alabama District. Current Principal Melissa Hayes has accepted a position at Aviano Elementary School, Italy, with DoDDS-Europe.

Dr. Ferguson has served as an educator for 24 years in a variety of positions, including first, fourth and fifth grade classroom teacher; curriculum specialist; intervention teacher/reading coach; assistant principal and interim principal. Most recently she served as Assistant Principal at Devers Elementary School at Fort Bragg, NC, when she joined DoDEA.

“We believe we have selected the very best candidate to serve as Maxwell AFB Elementary/Middle School principal,” said Mrs. Lois Rapp, Georgia/Alabama District Superintendent. “I look forward to welcoming her to our district.”

An Alabama native, Dr. Ferguson earned her Bachelor’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Huntingdon College and her Master’s of Arts degree in Elementary Education from Troy State University. She earned her Education Specialist degree in Elementary Education, Supervisor/Supervisor of Instruction, Principal and Educational Administrator from Auburn University. Her Doctorate of Education in Educational Leadership, Policy and Law was earned at Alabama State University.

Dr. Ferguson and her husband, Stan, have five children and eight grandsons.
