PEACHTREE CITY, GA — May 19, 2010 — Dr. Linda Curtis, Area Superintendent for Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) recently announced that Mr. Eric Steimel has been named principal of Lejeune High School, aboard Camp Lejeune, N.C., in the North Carolina District.

Steimel, who attended DoDEA schools, in Roosevelt Road, Puerto Rico, and graduated from Lejeune High School, most recently served as interim principal at LHS. He has worked for the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) for 26 years and began by teaching biology, chemistry, physics and physical science at LHS. He became an administrator when he was named assistant principal at LHS in 1992. He served as principal of Brewster Middle School from 2001 to 2007. He was an instructional systems specialist (ISS) for three years.

“As an assistant principal, principal and instructional specialist, Mr. Steimel has demonstrated strong leadership skills and a commitment to excellence,” said Dr. Emily Marsh, North Carolina District Superintendent. “I am delighted that he has accepted this essential role in the North Carolina District.”

Steimel earned his Bachelor’s of Arts Degree in Biology from Wake Forest University. He earned both his Master’s of Education Degree in Science Education and his Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from East Carolina University. He and his wife, Jennifer, have two children, Mary Beth and Hunter. Both are college students.
