PEACHTREE CITY, GA — September 30, 2008 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Ms. Leigh Anne Daniel-Kapiko has been named principal of Tarawa Terrace II Elementary School, aboard Camp Lejeune Marine Corps Base, N.C., in the North Carolina District.

Daniel-Kapiko comes back to the Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) from South Topsail Elementary School, Hampstead, N.C., where she has been principal since 2003.

“I am delighted that Leigh Anne Daniel-Kapiko has accepted the position as the Principal of Tarawa Terrace II Elementary School,” said Dr. Tom Hager, North Carolina District Superintendent. “Her years as a CLDS teacher and a NC administrator, her familiarity with the Camp Lejeune Community, as well as her special empathy with the children of our service members, combine to make her the ideal person for the job.”

A native of North Carolina, Daniel-Kapiko earned her bachelor’s degree in English and her master’s degree in education from the University of North Carolina at Wilmington, N.C. She began her teaching career in Clinton, N.C., at Union High School. She taught English at Lejeune High School from 1991-1998. She served as assistant principal at Rocky Point Elementary School from 1998 to 2000 and principal at Pender Learning Center in Burgaw, N.C., from 2000 to 2003.

Daniel-Kapiko has three children. Aaron is 12 and Grayson and Rachel are 8-year-old fraternal twins.
