PEACHTREE CITY, GA — July 20, 2006 — Dr. Elaine Beraza, Director, Department of Defense (DoD) Domestic Dependent Elementary and Secondary Schools (DDESS) and Department of Defense Dependents Schools, Cuba, (DoDDS-Cuba) announced today that Ms. Shawne Cryderman has been named principal of West Point Elementary School in the Virginia/New York/Puerto Rico District.

Cryderman is currently the principal of Mannheim Elementary School, Mannheim, Germany, with the Department of Defense Dependent School (DoDDS-Europe). Originally from Okemos, Mich., she earned her bachelor's degree from Alma College, Alma, Mich., and her Master's in the Art of Classroom Teaching (MACT) from Michigan State University.

"Shawne has an excellent working knowledge of Early Childhood Education and is an awesome advocate for children," said District Superintendent Dr. Bruce Jeter. "Her numerous experiences will allow her to transition into WPES and gain the trust and respect of all stakeholders in a relatively short amount of time. Shawne can always be found wherever the kids are found. Shawne Cryderman and David Rudy will make a wonderful team for the West Point Schools for many years to come."

Cryderman was with DoDEA schools for 27 years as a teacher in Seoul, Korea; Naples, Italy; Incirlik, Turkey; Keflavik, Iceland; and Okinawa, Japan; and as an assistant principal at Pusan American School, and Seoul Elementary School, both in Korea, before her promotion to principal at Bob Hope School, Okinawa, Japan.
