Williamsport, PA – United States Marshal Martin J.
Pane announced today the arrest of Donald Steven Guthrie – a 38-year old man
from Jersey Shore, Pennsylvania – and the recovery of a missing 14-year old
female.
In June 2012, Guthrie was arrested in Lycoming County, Pennsylvania on
charges of indecent assault, unlawful contact with a minor – sexual
offenses, child pornography, illegal use of a cell phone and corrupting the
morals of a minor. He was arraigned on these charges, and released on
$10,000 bail.
On August 31, Guthrie failed to appear in Lycoming County for a status
hearing on the outstanding charges. Warrants were issued charging Guthrie
with failure to appear in county court. The initial investigation to locate
Guthrie revealed he may have fled the state with a juvenile female.
The Lycoming County Sheriff’s Office and Pennsylvania State Police requested
the assistance of the United States Marshals Service (USMS) to arrest
Guthrie and recover the missing juvenile. The USMS adopted the case as part
of its Operation PICK-UP – an initiative designed to coordinate
investigative efforts between the U. S. Marshals Service and state and local
police agencies to recover missing children.
It was determined that Guthrie was a prior convicted sex offender. As such,
Guthrie was mandated to comply with Megan’s Law registration requirements.
On September 5 at about 3:00 PM, Guthrie was stopped in Illinois by the
Mount Morris Police Department. Guthrie provided a false name but, through
further investigation, his true identity was determined. The fugitive was
arrested on the outstanding Lycoming County warrants. A search of the
immediate area was conducted, and the missing juvenile was located.

is textbook case of law enforcement cooperation at the federal, state, and
local levels. We will always commit our best effort to these type cases, and
the safe recovery of missing children.”
