About Us

The Office of the Chief Information Officer leads the management of information technology (IT) in the Department of Energy, ensuring that the entire Department takes full advantage of IT as it carries out its missions, at least cost, in an energy efficient way, and adequately protecting its IT systems and information.

The OCIO primary functions include:

  • Provide IT and cyber security leadership to enable the DOE mission.
  • Serve as primary point of engagement in the interagency and intergovernmental community for DOE information management activities and support to citizens.
  • Lead DOE business transformation efforts in partnership with DOE Program and Staff Offices and Field Sites.
  • Provide IT services to DOE’s Federal workforce and direct support contractors.
  • Lead IT management in the Department.
  • Lead DOE’s IT enterprise architecture and capital investment processes.
  • Lead DOE’s cyber security program to ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of DOE’s IT systems and information in support of DOE programs.
  • Lead the management of desktop and application hosting support for DOE employees.
  • Conduct outreach across the Department to help match information resources with current and emerging DOE program requirements and to stimulate innovative use of advanced technology to improve mission execution.
  • Engage the interagency and intergovernmental community to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of DOE and the rest of the Federal Government.
