China

Related Reports

China is the world's leading producer and consumer of a range of agricultural commodities. It is the world's largest importer of soybeans and cotton, and a major exporter of fruits, vegetables and aquaculture products. Since the 1970s, China has increased the role of market forces in its economy and lowered import barriers, but still intervenes in agriculture to meet policy objectives. Demand in China for more and higher quality food products will grow as personal income continues to rise.

ERS provides research, analysis, and information on China's agricultural policy, outlook, and trade, including reports on specific commodities, food safety issues, rising consumer demand, and production challenges. ERS compiles official Chinese statistics on its agriculture sector and general economy, and provides links to current and historical USDA data on production, supply, distribution, and trade.
