Overview
The United States is the world's largest consumer of sweeteners,
including high-fructose corn syrup. Besides ranking as one of the
largest global sugar producers, it is one of the few countries with
a significant output of both sugarbeets and sugarcane. It is also
among the largest sugar importers. The U.S. sugar program uses
price supports, domestic marketing allotments, and tariff-rate
quotas to influence the amount of sugar available to the U.S.
market. ERS monitors the sugar market, offering the following:
- Current and historical data on sugar and sweetener production,
uses, prices, and trade.
- Monthly market outlook reports covering production,
consumption, shipments, prices received, and trade, including
analyses of developments in U.S. and Mexican sugar markets.
- In-depth analyses of conditions in the domestic and global
sugar and sweeteners market, including supply, demand, and
commodity and trade policy.
