The Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge (NWR) and the Northern Forest Canoe Trail (NFCT) worked together to erect two educational signs at refuge boat launches to help educate boaters on aquatic invasive plants. The signs, designed and paid for by NFCT through a grant by the Lake Champlain Basin Program will be erected at various boat launch sites around the Lake Champlain Basin. The refuge's boat launch sites were a priority due to the heavy boat use and were a perfect spot to initiate the educational campaign to help reduce the spread of aquatic invasive plants. The refuge has continual management problems with aquatic invasives such as European milfoil, frog bit and water chestnut. The new signs help to educate the boating public to the problem of aquatic invasives and provide steps to take on site to prevent their spread across watersheds.
