WHAT’S NEW IN 2012?

We increased the Substantial Gainful Activity (SGA) amount for individuals with disabilities, other than blindness, from $1,000 to $1,010 for 2012

We increased the SGA amount for individuals who are blind from $1,640 to $1,690 for 2012.

The monthly earnings amount that we use to determine if a month counts for the Trial Work Period is $720 per month in 2012. The amount is unchanged from 2011. 

We increased the Supplemental Security Income (SSI) Federal Benefit Rates (FBR) from $674 to $698 per month  for an eligible individual and from $1,011 to $1,048 per month for an eligible couple for 2012

For 2012, the amount of earnings that will have no effect on eligibility or benefits for SSI beneficiaries who are students has increased from $6,660 to $6,840 a year. The amount of earnings that we can exclude each month, until we have excluded the maximum for the year, has increased from $1,640 to $1,700 a month.

For 2012, the monthly Medicare Part A Hospital Insurance Base Premium is $451.00 and the 45 percent Reduced Premium is $248.00.  The Part B Supplemental Medical Insurance monthly Base Premium is $99.90.
