Consumer Protection

In these tough economic times, we know that every dollar you spend is precious. The Government of the District of Columbia wants to be sure you are getting exactly what you pay for.

The Office of the Attorney General and the Department of Consumer and Regulatory Affairs are aggressively pursuing businesses trying to make a quick buck at the expense of District residents.

This is a central, easy-to-find location where residents and visitors of the District can get consumer protection information, file a complaint, provide anonymous tips or research businesses. We want to hear from you.

We are featuring three major initiatives targeting unlicensed towing businesses, auto repair shops and home improvement contractors. Did a mechanic charge you hundreds of dollars in additional fees without a quote? Have you been approached by suspicious contractors offering rates too good to be true? Did a tow company require you pay in cash only? Help us track down these businesses – or any business violating laws – by submitting a formal complaint, provide an anonymous tip or become a fan on Facebook and talk directly and share pictures and videos with us today. Or follow on Twitter.
