House committee addresses price of gas at hearing
For U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Cortez, and most of his Republican counterparts, the answer lies in decreasing dependence on foreign oil.
USFS needs markets for pine-beetle wood, Tipton told
The continued loss of businesses in the wood-products industry in the West has hampered the U.S. Forest Service in dealing with the ravages of the mountain pine beetle, Forest Service Chief Tom Tidwell said Tuesday. The Forest Service, however, has the regulatory tools it needs to deal with the 4 million acres and millions of trees, most of them lodgepole pine, in the Rocky Mountains, Tidwell told a U.S. House subcommittee. Tidwell was questioned by U.S. Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Colo., during a hearing before the subcommittee on conservation, energy, and forestry.
Tipton hosts town hall meeting
Congressman Scott Tipton said that scenes of economic struggle have greeted him in his travels through the 3rd Congressional District. The economic hardship is being caused by policies of the Obama administration, he told a packed meeting room during a town hall visit in Delta on Monday.
Clean energy
Rep. Scott Tipton, R-Colo., has been able to garner approval of the House of Representatives for his legislation to allow small hydropower operations on existing Bureau of Land Management canals and pipelines. The bill was approved 265-154.
Scott Tipton town hall meeting covers deficit, jobs, regulations
The House recessed Friday, and Republican Rep. Scott Tipton is taking the time off to tour his Third Congressional District. But unlike fellow legislators who represent more populated districts in the eastern portions of the country, Tipton has a lot of ground to cover before the House reconvenes.
Tipton’s hydropower bill passes House
According to the National Hydropower Association, hydropower is the cleanest and most cost-effective way to deliver electricity. In Colorado, 31 percent of renewable energy is hydropower. The Congressional Budget Office estimates the bill would generate $5 million in federal revenue over 10 years. Tipton agreed, saying Colorado could generate as much electricity as the Glen Canyon Dam without building anything new.
Guided climbing on its way out at Black Canyon?
“While I recognize that guided climbing comprises a relatively small percentage of total climbing activity in the Black Canyon, I am concerned that, if adopted, the proposal will reduce opportunities for safe, facilitated wilderness recreation and education...,” Tipton wrote in a letter addressed to Jarvis and Secretary of the Interior Ken Salazar dated Feb. 27.
Farm bill is essential, Colorado lawmakers say
Colorado is leading the way in rural agriculture, they wrote in a letter to their colleagues, and the extension would help sustain Colorado’s economy.
Reining in feds
Scott Tipton is to be thanked, because if the bill with his amendment fails, it might increase pressure on the Colorado River if San Joaquin Valley farmers were forced to look elsewhere for supplies. Should they put a call on Colorado River water, that could imperil deliveries of West Slope water to the Arkansas Valley through the Fryingpan-Arkansas Project.
U.S. strike against Iran should be last resort
"If Iran, a country with known terrorist ties, were to obtain nuclear weapons, it would have a destabilizing effect on the entire region and pose a severe threat to our national security," Tipton said, through a spokesman, Tuesday. "It is preferential that preventing Iran from obtaining nuclear weapons be done through diplomatic channels, but we can't take any options off the table."
