Tipton’s hydropower bill passes full House
Rep. Scott Tipton’s bill to promote hydropower development passed the full House of Representatives Wednesday. The measure promotes hydropower development on existing Bureau of Reclamation water pipes and streamlines the regulatory process to develop the energy.
Water bill could affect Colorado
Tipton supports the bill, with his amendment to limit the scope of federal review, because it would protect farm jobs. He does not want the federal review to set a precedent that would be applied to other states, however. If the bill fails, it might also increase pressure on the Colorado River if San Joaquin Valley farmers were forced to look elsewhere for supplies, Tipton said.

Tipton didn't forget his constituents

The West needs water projects, Tipton says
The growing West needs new water projects, but federal regulations are hindering efforts to increase storage for agriculture and growing populations, a U.S. House subcommittee was told Tuesday.

Tipton also made the point that water is being directed in urban districts. He says it leaves rural areas of the West “dried up in terms of farms to feed the people that choose to live in those cities.”
