National Cemetery for Southern Colorado Veterans Closer to Becoming a Reality
Preliminary Approval Given to Preferred Kane Ranch Site

WASHINGTON, DC—Rep. Scott Tipton (CO-03), today, reaffirmed his support of the Kane Ranch site for a Southern Colorado national veterans’ cemetery following the release of the Preliminary Environmental Assessment (PEA) on possible sites for the cemetery.

Following the evaluation of possible socioeconomic and environmental issues, the PEA stated that the preferred Kane Ranch site and three backups posed no “significant adverse impact” so long as the management of the eventual site is carried out in accordance to guidelines provided in the report.

“The Kane Ranch site is the most accessible place for veterans and their families in the Southern Colorado region, and remains the preferred location for the national veterans’ cemetery. It is the site I will continue to push for.” Tipton said. “I’m encouraged that the PEA named Kane Ranch as one of the viable sites, and I will continue to work with members of the Colorado delegation, including Congressman Lamborn, and local veterans groups to make a Southern Colorado national veterans’ cemetery a reality.”

Congressman Tipton has requested a public meeting be held in Pueblo to discuss the findings of the PEA and that copies of the Draft PEA be made available for viewing in a Pueblo location.

“This has been a tremendous community-driven effort, and we are excited that the VA is getting closer to making a Southern Colorado national cemetery a reality for the heroes that call this region home,” said Tipton.
