Communities Putting Prevention to Work (CPPW)

CDC's Communities Putting Prevention to Work program funds 50 communities through a 2-year cooperative agreement to reduce chronic disease related to obesity and tobacco using the evidence and practice based MAPPS (Media, Access, Point of decision information, Price, and Social support services) strategies. This effort is expected to produce broad, high-impact, sustainable, health outcomes through environmental change strategies.

Through evidence-based strategies, these communities are responsible for improving access to nutrition, increasing physical activity, and reducing the consumption and initiation of tobacco use as well as exposure to secondhand smoke. Of the awarded communities, there are:

• Eleven communities addressing both obesity and tobacco.
• Twenty-eight communities addressing obesity alone.
• Eleven communities addressing tobacco alone.
