7/29/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- The situation remains serious in the Minot Air Force Base, N.D., area, and the stop movement order remains in place, Air Force officials announced July 29.

Heavy spring flooding forced many to evacuate the city of Minot N.D., prompting the 5th Bomb Wing and 91st Missile Wing commanders to request a partial stop movement in June.

Military members who will be allowed to proceed include technical training graduates and accessions who are single with no dependents, said Col. David Slade, the military assignments director. Those who are married or who have dependents will not be allowed to proceed.

In addition, military members stationed overseas who have a July date eligible to return from overseas, who were not authorized to proceed, are being diverted to a new assignment location. Those with an August DEROS will be reviewed to determine who will be allowed to proceed to Minot. Those who are not authorized will be able to request a voluntary 30-day DEROS extension. If they do not choose to voluntarily extend, assignment diversion actions will be taken.

Servicing personnel sections or force support squadrons will communicate each Airman's decision to AFPC.

Airmen other than training graduates and accessions will be allowed to proceed to Minot AFB on a case-by-case basis, Slade said.

"We are notifying applicable FSS and MPS personnel via e-mail for those eligible to proceed, so unless we notify you, you cannot proceed to Minot," he said.

As previously announced, civilians with PCS orders to Minot AFB should not depart their losing base until notified by personnel authorities. Civilians returning to Minot AFB from leave or a temporary duty assignment are authorized to return. Civilians slated for a TDY to Minot AFB must get host unit approval before traveling.

For more information about the stop movement, affected military members should contact their military personnel section, or call the AFPC assignment programs and procedures branch at 210-565-3815, or the 24-hour contact at 210-565-2020. Civilians affected can contact their local civilian personnel section, the 24-hour number above or call the POC at 210-565-5737.

I just recieved my assignment rip a week ago with a RNLT date of 13APR12 and I guess the stop movement order has been extended. What do they expect us to so when their not giving us paper orders till less than a month out and rent is twice as much as BAH? They expect me as an 11 year SSgt to just get rid of my 5-year girlfriend, my dog and all the belongings I have accured over the years to live in the dorms over there? I've call AFPC, emailed my functional and spoke to MPF with no answers except hurry up and wait. Does anyone have any further insight on this?

Marissa, you guys could still go there because what it sounds like your saying to me is that your husband got his assignment RIP, not his actual hard copy orders, and that yall's report-no-later-than date is January. I currently have a RNLTD of Nov and I am supposed to leave here in 29 days and still don't have orders. I believe what the AF is doing is just extending the stop movement 1 month at a time. Cross my fingers that it gets extended to Sept so I don't have to go.

My husband just got orders for Minot two weeks ago. Is there a good chance it will change since I am his dependent? Also, he recieved his short sheet with this location. We are supposed to be up there in January 2012... I called the numbers listed. The 24-hr one goes to a sprint mailbox like a personal cell phone. Help, anyone! I need answers. His civilian instructors won't help him!

Flooding has always been a problem at Minot and at Grand Forks. I'm just puzzled as to why they still haven't put a contingency plan in place to cover the possibility of displacement for troops stationed there. I worked flood control and relief for years and it took a massive flood at Grand Forks for them to put a reliable levee system in place to protect the city. They ran onto the same situation with the vultures preying on the displaced there also. Prayers to all who lost in the disaster.

I just left Minot a few weeks ago. They are now charging as much as 2000 for a 2 bedroom apartment. The landlords in the area are taking advantage of the people who got misplaced because if you want somewhere to live you will have to pay. Rent is also going up if the rental is located in a flood free zone. What these landlords are doing is completely wrong.

The base is fine. Downtown got hit pretty bad. The city itself is hurting and needs help. People from all over the U.S. are coming up here to assist with all the flood damage.

The base may be only 18 miles from the city but we were impacted. Aside from family and friends losing thier homes and businesses the greater impact was where will everyone stay. There is no where near enough housingdorms on base to accomodate all those assigned therefore they would have to live in town which is still cleaning from the worst flood in recorded history to Minot. So the diversion that is in place is for a great reason.

There has NEVER been enough housing on base or off even in the late 1990's. It is also a college town so rentals in town can be difficult and pricy. For some short-sighted reason they tried to stand up another Unit a year or so ago with NOT ENOUGH HOUSING available and that failed. Some bought houses to hve their orders cancelled. Most couldn't find anything. So after the flood and AF people losing their rentals and owned homes of course there is stop movement in place. PS - We actually enjoyed our tour in Minot.

I spent almost three LOVERLY years at Minot when the base first opened. I just want to say to those folks who were diverted to another assignment - Amen and Halleluja. There but for the grace.......
