The cover story of the April 2012 issue of The Auk, an international journal of ornithology, highlights a paper by NYS Museum scientist Dr. Jeremy Kirchman and his collaborators. The researchers obtained the first DNA sequences from the extinct Carolina Parakeet (Conuropsis carolinensis) and used the data to reconstruct the evolutionary history of the species.
