Rockville, MD, Jul 3, 2012 -

Today Maryland Congressman Chris Van Hollen issued the following statement on his efforts to facilitate power restoration after last week’s destructive storm:

"In the wake of Friday night’s violent storm, my staff and I have been focused on the needs of the residents of Montgomery and Prince George’s Counties, many of whom are still without power and doing their best to cope with sweltering temperatures. We are closely monitoring events on the ground, and we are working with constituents who have encountered life-threatening situations – both medical and public safety concerns – to facilitate solutions in the days following the storm. While my district office in Rockville was without power until 1:30 pm Tuesday, my Washington office has been passing on notices of outages and downed wires to Pepco. Now that power has been restored to my Rockville office, you can contact us with your requests and comments at 301-424-3501.

“I share our community’s frustration with the pace of the restoration and having to go without power for many days. For now, I remain focused on the safety and well-being of those affected by the storm and outages. Once power has been fully restored, I will be evaluating Pepco’s performance. That evaluation will include a comparison of Pepco’s response to that of other utility companies in our region. As part of that assessment, I welcome the comments, observations, and recommendations of all of my constituents."
