The Results are in - NIH Ranked #1 Again
Universum, the global leader in employer branding, has announced the survey results for “America’s Ideal Employers 2012 .” For the second consecutive year, the NIH was Identified as the #1 ideal employer among undergraduate students majoring in the Natural Sciences. The NIH topped the list over other American employers including Mayo Clinic (#2), CDC (#3), and the American Cancer Society (#4). The NIH was also in the top 100 Ideal Employers for students majoring in Business (#72), Engineering (#38), IT (#95), and Humanities/Liberal Arts (#16). The results are based on a survey of 59,643 undergraduates at 318 U.S. universities that was conducted from November 2011 to March 2012.

The Results Are In – 2010 Best Places to Work in the Federal Government
The Partnership for Public Service, in collaboration with American University, has released the 2010 results for the Best Places to Work in the Federal Government , and out of 224 responding sub-agencies, the National Institutes of Health ranked number 57, with an employee satisfaction score of 69.4%. This is an improvement over 2009, when NIH was ranked number 72, with an employee satisfaction score of 66.1%. The NIH score of 69.4% is above the Government-wide average of 65.0% and the above the score of 64.8% for the Department of Health and Human Services. NIH has the second highest in HHS, trailing only the Administration on Aging with an employee satisfaction score of 72.4%.
A look at some of the categories within the rankings shows that NIH ranked high for:
- Work/Life Balance (number 31 out of 223 sub-agencies);
- Performance-Based Rewards (number 33 out of 223 sub-agencies); and
- Training/Development and Strategic Management, both of which were ranked number 34 out of 223 sub-agencies.
Categories for which NIH ranked lower included:
- Pay, with a employee satisfaction rank of 152 out of 223 sub-agencies;
- Effective Leadership – Fairness, which was ranked 92 out of 223; and
- Family-Friendly Culture & Benefits with a rank of 78 out of 223.
For the second year in a row, NIH has been named one of the 50 Best Employers for Workers over 50 by AARP. NIH is the highest listed Federal Agency. NIH is a unique institution - with a hospital and residential building on our Bethesda, MD campus, we employ hundreds of occupations. With Architects, Chaplains, Certified Nurse Anesthetists, Phlebotomists, Engineers, and administrative professionals, our Scientists are well supported in their research. Most jobs are located in Bethesda or Rockville, MD but we have several satellite locations in Frederick and Baltimore, MD, Research Triangle Park, NC and Hamilton, MN.
