I'm a bit of a gear nut, always have been. I was wondering what gear you get to keep after BCT and what you have to turn back in. I was also wondering what gear a typical aviation mechanic MOS would recieve once arriving at their unit.

You will return everything that isn't a clothing item. For example, your ruck sack? That will be returned. Your patrol cap, brown shirts, and ACU's? Those you get to keep. Make sense?

Don't worry, though. Once you start drilling with your unit, you'll get assigned to all that fun stuff again. Good luck with your training!

And be prepared to deal with turning your gear in. Some of those civillians turn away stuff you didn't even use and tell you it's dirty.
