AFROTC command candidates named

11/8/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas -- More than 70 officers from a variety of Air Force career fields have been selected as Air Force Reserve Officer Training Corps detachment commander candidates, Air Force Personnel Center officials announced.
Special duty command opportunities like this one are highly sought, said Master Sgt. Joei Castillo, AFPC special utilization assignments representative.
"ROTC detachment commanders have an enormous impact on the Air Force," said Castillo. "They lead and mold future Air Force leaders at a critical time in their education and development, so it's essential that the right people apply and are accepted for the assignments."
The Holm Center for Officer Accessions and Citizen Development will begin contacting candidates this month to start the matching process prior to nominating candidates to universities nationwide, said Castillo.
"The process could take up to two months, after which the Holm center will work with AFPC and major commands to finalize assignment instructions," she said.
According to the master sergeant, candidates who are not matched to a command position will be placed on an alternate list and will be considered for unprogrammed vacancies.
