10/7/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas  -- Air Force officials recently approved expanding the deployment opportunities for Airmen who typically had limited opportunities to deploy in support of air and space expeditionary force operations.

Last month the 602nd Training Group (Provisional) at Keesler Air Force Base, Miss., began accepting Airmen with restrictive deployment availability codes to fill openings in its operations center and at training detachments.

"The overarching intent is to support 2nd Air Force without reducing the Air Force's ability to meet combatant commander requirements," said Col. Henry Polczer, director of AEF and Personnel Operations at the Air Force Personnel Center. "We will source these requirements to an Airman in their normal vulnerability period who would otherwise not be able to deploy."

The 602nd TRG (P) provides support to Airmen attending Army combat skills training, combat Airman skills training and the basic combat convoy course. These courses provide Airmen specific training to prepare them for their deployment and meet the needs of the combatant commander.

The AEF and Personnel Operations directorate will use the Military Personnel Data System, or MilPDS, to source those individuals with deployment availability codes which makes them normally unavailable for worldwide deployments.

"The use of MilPDS to source these individuals is relatively new," said Wanda Davies, deputy chief of scheduling division for AEF and Personnel Operations. "It is usually done by sourcing to the unit type code which requires the commander to select personnel from their unit to fill the AEF requirement."

The key is for those Airmen with medical DAV codes, and their supervisors, to understand they might be selected for stateside taskings and to be prepared, Davies said.

These Airmen will either work in the 602nd TRG (P) operations center or at one of the training detachments. This new selection process currently covers approximately 100 requirements.

And if you developed a disease that didn't stop you from doing your job and was treatable or manageable at most locations but was such that they didn't want to risk you being downrange would you really feel the same way as you do now Would you like your promotion blocked because of it Stop the scammers yes but not all with medical isses are scammers. All nondeployable coding should be directly linked to new temporary non wavierable promotion blocking personnel action coding to prevent access to PME no max performance ratings during any impacted reporting periods no specialized training TDYs and restricted admin hold for career enhancing tangibles pending fit for duty status and fully deployment eligible. Deployment ineligibles must not be considered for promotion potential on equal footing as others without restriction or limitation until unconditionally mission capable. Add chronic non deployment status to Force Shaping criteria hit list. Be firm and fair to all.

Send those men and women that have actually deployed to the Middle East to these locations. If you can't deploy due to some medical reason thank you for your service but you need to be separated. Too many folks have had to go on last minute Deployments because of massive headaches Asthma or some other medical problem that just so happened to flare up when selected to deploy. We are becoming a soft Military Service and the term Warrior should not be given to a large majority of Servicemen because they aren't.

So hide out on a profile and deploy to Keesler. Pulling per diem and family sep just like the MacDill deplyments Meanwhile the same Airmen get hit for Afghanistan for their third fourth fifth time etc. Funny how these profiles would magically disappear when taskings for Aviano or other preferable locations showed up.

It is NOT a deployment if you stay in the CONUS that's called a TDY...
