ASPR Public Affairs

ASPR strategic communications provides an array of communications support services, including communication planning, stakeholder communication, and media relations. The office serves as a resource during emergency operations, working with communication counterparts in state and other federal agencies under Emergency Support Function 15 (ESF-15) to coordinate messaging and media interaction to ensure members of the public have the information they need for decision making.

In preparing for, responding to and recovering from disasters, the Office of Communications:

  • Support to state and local government public affairs and communication teams in responding to emergencies.
  • Collaboration with international multilateral organizations and foreign governments on communication activities to prepare for public health emergencies and medical disasters;
  • Education for the public on the role of the USHHS and ASPR in a public health emergency, and the importance of personal preparedness among the nation’s residents; and most importantly
  • Education for all Americans on what assistance to expect from government agencies during a public health emergency.
  • Provide a focal point for media representatives seeking information about HHS and ASPR programs and activities.
