Congressman Boehner Highlights House Action to Curb Excessive Regulations, Stop the Small Business Tax Hike

Jul 24, 2012

Washington
-

At a weekly press conference with Republican leaders today, Congressman John Boehner (R-West Chester) highlighted this week’s House vote to curb excessive government regulations and next week’s vote to stop the small business tax hike – both part of Republicans’ relentless focus on helping the private sector grow and create jobs.  As Congressman Boehner noted, Republicans are the only ones who have offered a plan to stop the tax hike that threatens 700,000 American jobs, and defense cuts that will compromise our national security.  Following is the text of Congressman Boehner’s remarks:

“The House remains focused on jobs.  This week, we’ll pass legislation to stop excessive regulations that hurt small businesses.

“In a recent survey, 78 percent of small business owners said that excessive regulations got in the way of hiring new workers.  These bills that we’ll be moving this week will cut through the red tape and freeze new regulations until unemployment is at or below six percent.

“Next week, we’ll move to stop the looming tax hike that threatens about 700,000 jobs, according to an Ernst & Young survey.

“Listen, we’re the only ones in town who’ve offered a plan to stop the tax hikes that threaten our economy, and to stop the ‘sequester’ that’s coming that will cut defense and hurt our ability to provide security for the American people.

“We’re going to continue to focus on what the American people expect us to focus on, the big issues that they sent us here to deal with.”
