I have just started selling my BBQ sauce and need to figure out the sales
tax. So far this has been sold in both Wisconsin and IL. If I sell one bottle
for $5 what is the state tax for it to equal $5 total price.
Thanks

5%, the tax on $5 would be 25 cents. Therefore, the selling price would be
$4.76. (When the tax is 5%, that equals one cent for every 20 cents. If you
price the product at $4.75, then the tax would be 24 cents, not 25, and you
would sell for $4.99.)
Perhaps more importantly, are you obtaining a temporary sales tax permit for
each show? If not, you need to do that. In many states, you can print a
temporary permit from the state tax or revenue department's website.
