DEM Sets Five Priorities for Performance Improvement
DEM's Administrative Adjudication Division Moves to DOA HQ
DEM's Division of Fish and Wildlife will hold public workshops in Tiverton and Exeter in early April to discuss the proposed 2014-2015 freshwater fishing seasons, 2013-2014 falconry season, and the 2013-2014 hunting season and bag limit regulations. (More info)
DEM Releases New Policy Document on Marine Fisheries Management in Rhode Island
DEM has issued a new guidance document that synthesizes the priority interests of the State with regard to the conservation and management of marine fisheries. (More info)
"Transferring the Farm" Workshop Hosted by DEM, URI Rescheduled to March 25th
The "Transferring the Farm" workshop originally scheduled to be held tomorrow has been rescheduled on Monday, March 25 at the University of Rhode Island's East Farm. DEM's Division of Agriculture, in conjunction with URI is sponsoring the session for farm families. The four-hour workshop will address topics such as estate planning, business agreements, trusts and retirement. (More info)
DEM Awarded $2.9 Million Federal Grant for Infrastructure Improvements at the Port of Galilee
DEM was awarded a $2.9 million grant today from the US Economic Development Administration (EDA) for infrastructure improvements at the Port of Galilee. The federal grant will support reconstruction of the 925-foot south bulkhead from Salty Brine State Beach to State Pier 3 and rehabilitation of 3,200 square feet of heavy duty work pier HH. The U.S. District Court for the District of Rhode Island has just approved the State's offer to purchase the remaining land at Rocky Point in Warwick for the development of a future State Park. The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA), as Receiver for Moneta Capital, presented the State's offer to purchase the 82-acre property for $9.65 million to the federal District Court for final approval at a hearing held this afternoon in Providence. DEM announces that $150,000 in farm viability grant funds is available through DEM for grants to enhance the competitiveness of specialty crops grown in Rhode Island. The funds are from the US Department of Agriculture's Specialty Crop Block Grant program. Specialty crops are defined by this federally-supported program as fruits and vegetables, dried fruit, tree nuts, and nursery crops including floriculture and turf grass production. (More info)
DEM Accepting Applications for 2013 Seasonal Jobs
DEM says it's not too early to think about seasonal employment at state parks, beaches and campgrounds. (More info)
As part of a broader state effort to improve the regulatory climate, DEM has initiated a Lean staff training program to improve customer service, streamline business processes, and make its permitting programs more efficient. (More info)
