The Cleveland Rape Crisis Center (CRCC) works to provide assistance to survivors of sexual assaults. The center offers a range of services, including a 24-hour hotline, on-site counseling in emergency rooms, face-to-face counseling for rape survivors and their families, and public education programs. CRCC serves survivors and those supportive of them at any time, regardless of age, gender, sexual orientation, race, income, ability, or religion. Working alongside the FBI in human trafficking cases, CRCC provided timeless aid to victims, whether in the form of counseling, clothing, a phone, or a safe haven. To address the recommendations set forth by Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson’s Special Commission on Sex Crimes and Missing Persons, the CRCC and the Cleveland Division of Police are developing a collaborative partnership to support victims who choose to report a sexual assault. In 2010, CRCC CEO Megan O’Bryan was named to this special commission, along with a supervisory special agent from the FBI and representatives from several other related organizations. They currently review and provide feedback on Cleveland’s new policies and practices in handling cases involving missing persons and sex crimes. An appointed CRCC advocate now has access to police reports within a day or two after they are made. |
