“Growing Our Own” 2005 Occupational Therapy Assistant Graduate
With two toddlers and working a night shift at a local hospital, Macarena Adames began the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at South Texas College. “I am grateful that the
One-Stop Partner
Project VIDA believed in second opportunities, because this was the type of support that I needed,” she said. VIDA assisted her with tuition, books and other support services.
During her second semester, Macarena's husband died. Devastated, she had to decide whether to drop out or not. However, she realized that VIDA staff would be supportive of her educational efforts, so she continued, more determined than ever to complete her journey.
In August, 2005, Macarena Adames graduated from the Occupational Therapy Assistant Program at South Texas College and received her certification in October 2005. Now working as a Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) at a pediatric rehabilitation clinic and earning $20.00 per hour, Macarena is self sufficient and able to provide a stable life for her children. |
