BOEMRE Awards $3.7 Million for Alabama Facility
Grant Will Fund Improvements to Gulf Shores Marine Resources Center
NEW ORLEANS – The Bureau of
Ocean Energy Management, Regulation and Enforcement (BOEMRE)
announced today that it has awarded a $3,725,000 Coastal Impact
Assistance Program (CIAP) grant to the state of Alabama. The grant
is an amendment to an earlier award and will fund additional
expenses required for improvements to the Marine Resources
Facilities at the Claude Peteet Mariculture Center in Gulf Shores,
Ala.
Created
by the Energy Policy Act of 2005, CIAP provides
funding to the six Outer Continental Shelf (OCS) oil and gas
producing states to conserve and protect the coastal environment. CIAP
is an ongoing program with grant funding that is allocated based on
the offshore energy revenues collected by the United States.
“CIAP grants provide
enormous and valuable assistance to states and communities along the
Gulf Coast,” said BOEMRE Director Michael R. Bromwich. “Initiatives
such as the improvements to the Marine
Resources Facilities are
extremely important in advancing coastal conservation and
environmental protection efforts now and in the future.”
The grant will provide for additional
funds requested to cover extra engineering costs, construction
management services, and construction costs of the boat basin at the
Claude Peteet Mariculture Center. It will fund the construction of
the Center’s Marine Resources Laboratory and Office facility as
well.
CIAP received $250 million in
appropriated funds for each of the Fiscal Years 2007-2010, to be
disbursed to six eligible OCS oil and gas producing states: Alabama,
Alaska, California, Louisiana, Mississippi and Texas.
