Senior Official to Discuss Education Reform at National Conference for Principals and Child Care Directors in Baltimore

Deputy Assistant Secretary for Policy and Early Learning Jacqueline Jones will discuss education reform and the Obama Administration’s cradle-to-career efforts to ensure that students are ready to compete in the 21st century global economy at the National Conference for Principals and Child Care Directors opening session on Sunday, July 15 in Baltimore, Md.

Jacqueline Jones heads the Department's Race to the Top-Early Learning Challenge. Among the program's 37 applicants, Maryland is one of only nine state awarded nearly $50 million in December 2011. The award is funding Maryland's comprehensive plan to increase access to high-quality programs for children from low-income families, align and raise standards for existing programs, improve training and support for the early learning workforce, and build robust evaluation systems to help parents make informed decisions.

The conference is sponsored by Community Advocates for Young Learners (CAYL), an umbrella organization housing several well-known fellowships, including the Wean Principals Scholars, Boston Principals Scholars, the Early Educators Fellowship Initiative, CAYL Schott Fellowship in Early Care and Education and the CAYL Principals Fellowship in Early Care and Education.
