Senior U.S. Education Official to Visit Alexander Hamilton High School and Discuss School Improvement

U.S. Deputy Assistant Secretary Jason Snyder will visit Alexander Hamilton High School on Wednesday, May 30, at 9:25 a.m. CT, in Milwaukee, Wis. The school is using School Improvement Grant funds to turn around the school and to improve student achievement. The school's motto "Together We Can" promotes forging partnerships with family, community, and teachers to enable students to be successful, inspired and responsible adults.
Since 2009, the state of Wisconsin has received more than $65 million in SIG awards. Hamilton High School received more than $750,000 in SIG support, including funding for teacher supports, professional development, literacy coaching and intervention teachers who assist students struggling with reading and math.
Snyder and school leaders will be available to address media questions at noon. Press interested in covering Snyder’s school visit are encouraged to send their requests to press@ed.gov. Immediately following the media availability, Snyder will meet with student leaders at the school.
