U.S. Education Secretary to Address Parenting Magazine’s Mom Congress on Administration’s Education Agenda and How Reforms Support Students and Families

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will address the crucial role that parents play in their children’s education at Parenting magazine’sthird Mom Congress on Education and Learning conference at 9 a.m. Monday, April 30, at the National Press Club in Washington, D.C. He will give remarks before the current class of mom delegates, one representing each state and Washington, D.C., as well as former mom delegates and attendees. Duncan will highlight the Obama administration’s accomplishments to date toward its education agenda, how those reforms support students and their families, and how parents can be advocates for change in their states and communities.

The moms were chosen by Parenting magazine based on their accomplishments in improving local schools. The Mom Congress delegates each received an all-expenses-paid trip to Washington, D.C., from Parenting to attend the event. They will work with national leaders in education and advocacy, Parenting editors, faculty from Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies, and hear from the UN Foundation’s Shot@Life campaign, the official title sponsor of the 2012 conference. Parenting magazine launched the Mom Congress initiative in March 2009 to celebrate and connect mothers who were advocating for reform in their local school systems.
