Event Date 1: January 19, 2012 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

Vice President Joe Biden and U.S. Deputy Secretary of Education Tony Miller will travel to Reno, Nev., today to talk to high school students and their families about the importance of college and the steps the Administration has taken to keep college affordable in Nevada and across the country. Audio of the Vice President and Deputy Secretary Miller’s remarks will be streamed live on www.WhiteHouse.gov/live at 11:30 a.m. PT (2:30 p.m. ET). The event will be at Galena High School and is open to pre-registered press.

As part of a continuing national dialogue on the issue, the Vice President and Deputy Secretary Miller will also call on colleges and universities to do their part to contain costs and ensure college remains within reach for the middle class. Since the members of Galena High School’s senior class were born, average published tuition and fees at public four-year colleges across the country have tripled. Two thirds of all college students take out loans to pay for school, graduating with an average debt of over $25,000.
