Education Secretary Duncan to Discuss College Affordability, Job Creation with Students in Florida

U.S. Secretary of Education Arne Duncan will meet with students in Tallahassee and the Miami area on Wednesday and Thursday to highlight the Administration’s work to both make college more affordable and strengthen postsecondary education so students are able to find good jobs after graduation. Duncan’s conversations follow the President’s State of the Union address and are part of a continuing national dialogue that Obama Administration officials have had with students and families across the country as the Administration works to ensure college remains within reach for the middle class.

In Tallahassee on Wednesday, Jan. 25, Duncan will meet with students and local leaders at Tallahassee Community College in a town hall-style event to discuss efforts to spur job creation by strengthening postsecondary career and technical education. He will discuss the key role that workforce training plays by helping to put people back to work and rebuilding the economy. The event begins at 3:10 p.m. and will be followed by a press availability.

On Thursday, Jan. 26, Duncan will travel to the Miami area to host a discussion on the Administration’s efforts to make college more affordable during an event with students, parents and local officials at Pembroke Pines Charter High School. During the conversation, Duncan will continue to both highlight the Administration’s efforts to increase college affordability and call on colleges and universities to do their part to contain costs. The event begins at 9:10 a.m. and will be followed by a press availability.
