Stabenow’s Statewide “Jobs of the Future” Tour Continues in Cadillac
U.S. Senator Debbie Stabenow, Chairwoman of the Senate Committee on Agriculture, Nutrition and Forestry, continued her statewide "Jobs of the Future" Tour with a stop at BorgWarner, a thermal systems manufacturer. Stabenow met with local business and manufacturing leaders to discuss Michigan's leadership in advanced manufacturing and cutting-edge technologies.
Chairwoman Stabenow said: "When we grow things here and make things here, we create jobs here in Michigan. Today, Michigan innovators are making new high-tech products throughout the state and Michigan is leading the country in new clean-energy patents. Michigan workers are the most talented in the world, but it's critical they have the right skills and training opportunities to help our businesses create the jobs of the future here in Michigan."
Todd Bennington, Plant Manager for BorgWarner's Thermal Division Plant, said: "I want to express my appreciation for the time allotted by Senator Stabenow and her staff to visit with us today in Cadillac as she seeks input from the Cadillac area manufacturing leadership. Her current "Jobs of the Future" Tour is near and dear to the hearts of local manufacturing leaders, with our broad array of products and processes that will require employees that are technically savvy to ensure we as organizations can continue to compete successfully on a global level for many years to come. One of our greatest competitive threats today is the near term turnover of many skilled labor positions over the next 10 years and the lack of skilled labor replacements in the pipeline. It is imperative we develop initiatives to address this shortfall."
Today's event is another stop on Stabenow's "Jobs of the Future" Tour, where she is meeting with Michigan business leaders and discussing her initiatives to boost Michigan's new economy by helping innovative companies create the new high-tech jobs of the future.
