United States Trade Representative Ron Kirk, traveled to the Charlotte-area from July 15-16, 2010, to discuss the significance of exports in creating and supporting jobs in North Carolina. This visit marks Ambassador Kirk’s first domestic trip since receiving President Barack Obama’s direction to complete the U.S.-Korea trade agreement. The President has asked Ambassador Kirk to initiate new discussions with his Korean counterpart to resolve outstanding issues in a way that levels the playing field for U.S. workers and producers, with the objective of completing that process by November. Ambassador Kirk is consulting with stakeholders in North Carolina and across the country to develop a package of proposals to present to Korea. While in the state Ambassador Kirk will discuss the potential for the U.S.-Korea trade agreement to open valuable markets for local agricultural product producers and other businesses. The success of North Carolina is an important part of achieving President Obama’s goal of doubling American exports and creating two million well-paying jobs in the United States within five years.
