2/16/2011 - RANDOLPH AIR FORCE BASE, Texas (AFNS) -- Department of Defense officials seek active-duty officers to participate in the 2012 Executive Leadership Development Program beginning in September.

This DOD program is designed for officers who have demonstrated strong leadership, commitment to public service, integrity and who have an interest in moving into senior management positions.

According to Air Force Personnel Center officer developmental education officials, Airmen who participate in the ELDP contribute a vital perspective on the missions, operations, culture, and customs of the military. During ELDP training, officers must be able to operate in real-life scenarios involving short deadlines and have the ability to conceptualize and analyze problems effectively.

Interested officers must be in the grade of major or major-select and have completed squadron officer school and intermediate developmental education, either in-residence or by correspondence or seminar. They also must have successfully occupied a flight-level or higher command position.

ELDP applications must be submitted to the AFPC Officer Developmental Education office by May 31. For more information on ELDP, visit the Air Force Personnel Services website or call the Total Force Service Center at 800-525-0102.

As one who was both enlisted and commissioned I will tell you that an Executive leadership program is NOT appropriate for enlisted members. Get a degree get a commission as so many of us have and stop arguing for your limitations.

This is a great opportunity to assist those upcoming leaders in making them better officers. I trust the fact that these programs are based on shaping our forces for the future. I am glad we are taking the steps needed to ensure a successful transition. If only we had more programs such as this one for all of the Total Force members.

@FB: this has nothing to do with keeping the enlisted man down. We have appropriate PME's for our rank, ALS, NCOA, SNCOA, Course 14, SEJPME and others. The AF allows us the opportunities to earn a degree and become commissioned. I wish I had done this earlier in my career but it is solely my fault. I have the degree not the commission.I'm all for whatever helps our officers become more efficient leaders and managers. If you feel that you need training just jump onto ADLS.

FBA, as a prior enlisted officer who is proud of his enlisted heritage, I am embarrased by your ignorance. Put your money where your mouth is and accept the responsiblity of being a commissioned officer if you think you are talented enough for it.

FB IN Pleeeeease - the rate of getting an opportunity like this is less than 1 percent of the Officer Corps. I know I've been trying for over 20 years.

Perhaps you should quit complaining and earn a commission then you can have an opportunity to apply for this program. There are just some programs that should be reserved for officers.

And yet another excellent training opportunity squandered by not not letting truly deserving enlisted people into the mix. The talents of today's enlisted force really must have the officer corps running scared. Why else are they keeping us down?
