HUD Economists prepare analyses and forecasts of economic and housing
market conditions in Region VIII. Recommendations made by Economists are part of the underwriting processes of the Department. Field Economists report to the office
of the Assistant Secretary for Policy Development and Research but
the Supervisory Economist in Denver remains the principal economic
advisor to the Regional Administrator.
Economists maintain current data on housing market conditions in
the region and prepare regional economic and housing summaries for
use in the Department's quarterly publication, "U.S. Housing Market
Conditions." They provide quarterly economic updates and respond to
requests for reports and briefing materials on specific topics such
as housing market conditions, affordable housing needs and homeownership
trends. They provide data, advice and recommendations to HUD underwriting
staff, lenders, developers, finance agencies and state and local
governments. Region VIII economists are actively involved in preparing and presenting local congressional briefings, attending state economic roundtables, and publishing data for public use.
