Initiating and completing the actions in the first National Health Security Strategy Implementation Plan (NHSS IP) will aid our nation in achieving health security. The plan is based on our nation’s first NHSS, which was submitted to Congress in December 2009, and addresses the NHSS’ ten specific strategic objectives for national health security, including community resilience, medical countermeasures, and health care delivery systems.
Because the NHSS IP is a national – not a federal – plan, agencies at all levels of government in concert with academia, private industry, and community organizations worked on the document together. Many of these actions listed in the IP are already underway, and all will have begun by the end of 2014. |
While many of the actions in the plan are federal and will be led by federal agencies, these actions are meant to serve as models and catalysts for action in communities across the country. Through the initiation and completion of these actions, the nation becomes better prepared for emergencies, minimizes the negative impact on health from disasters, protects public health, and potentially saves lives.
