DOE Data Explorer enhancement
adds more content

Since June of 2008, the DOE Data Explorer has been helping users find and link to DOE's vast collection of data and non-text information. The records in the DDE database are prepared by OSTI staff and based on information found at the websites where these collections reside. In 2011, OSTI also began inviting data owners and/or data holders to submit bibliographic information about individual datasets or datastreams to the Energy Citations Database (ECD). As a member of and a registering agency for DataCite, OSTI now assigns Digital Object Identifiers to these individual datasets. The assigning and registration of a DOI for every dataset reported is a free service provided by OSTI to enhance DOE's management of this important resource.

To accommodate this expanded scope of activity, a new functionality has been added to the DOE Data Explorer. It allows you to, with one search, retrieve results from both DDE and ECD. View the collections retrieved from the DDE database by your search word or phrase and then, with the click of a button, view the relevant dataset records that were retrieved from ECD by that same search. Toggle back and forth between the two lists of search results, and link out to a collection or to an individual dataset. DOIs for the datasets are, of course, included in the citations.
