921A - Airdrop Systems Technician

Duties:

Provide technical guidance to commanders and staff regarding airborne and/or airdrop operations.

Supervise inspection of parachutes and parachute components, to detect flaws in materials and workmanship.

Supervise packing of parachutes.

Ensure that unserviceable, nonrepairable and overage parachutes are retired from inventory.

Supervise airdrop rigging activities and airdrop equipment maintenance.

Maintain compliance standards and criteria for life support systems and other airdrop equipment.

921A Prerequisites:

  • Be a Staff Sergeant (SSG); Sergeant (SGT—Promotable) may submit a request for waiver for SSG requirement.
  • Have a minimum of eight (waiverable to seven) most recent years' documented experience in Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) 92R; may submit a request for waiver of one year experience.
  • Soldiers must:
    • Be fully deployable
    • Be able to meet all physical requirements in accordance with Army Regulation (AR) 40-501
    • Be able to take and pass an approved Army Physical Fitness Test (APFT) in accordance with FM-21-20 (standard or alternate)
    • Meet height/weight standards in accordance with AR 600-9
    • Soldiers may request a waiver to take the Alternate Event APFT for entrance into Warrant Officer Candidate Program.
  • Must submit copies of ALL Noncommissioned Officer Evaluation Reports (NCOERs). The majority of applicant’s NCOERs must reflect outstanding and exceptional duty performance ratings, noted with "Among the Best" ratings by the rater and "Successful" and "Superior" ratings by the senior rater.
  • Must be an Advanced Leaders Course (ALC) graduate in MOS 92R.
  • Must be senior parachutist rated.
  • Must have completed the Airdrop Load Inspectors Course.
  • Must have a minimum of two years' rated 92R supervisory experience over individuals in an aerial delivery facility, that are performing one of the following functions:
    • Packing of parachutes, aerial delivery equipment (ADE) repairs
    • Rigging of loads for cargo airdrop
    • Maintaining an ADE storage warehouse
    • Having a letter of recommendation (LOR) which attests to your technical and tactical competence in MOS 92R (listed in priority of preference):
      1. Senior 921A (CW3-CW5). You must submit a request for waiver for the 921A SWO LOR.
      2. Junior 921A (WO1-CW2)
      3. Quartermaster Warrant Officer
      4. Warrant officer (regardless of MOS or rank, preferably CW3-CW5)
    • Possess six credit hours of college level English with a concentration in writing. Successful completion of the College Level Examination Program (CLEP) general examination in English Composition or Freshman College Composition is also acceptable. The Test for Adult Basic Education (TABE) is not an acceptable alternative. Speech, literature and communication-based college courses do not normally meet the above prerequisite.
