6/27/2012 - ROBINS AIR FORCE BASE, Ga.  -- Headquarters Readiness Management Group here nominated 15 Individual Reservists who will compete for promotion at the Air Force Reserve Promotion Enhancement Program Board Aug 13.

"This is a big deal for IRs," said Senior Master Sgt. Angela Edwards, superintendent of personnel programs at RMG. "In some cases, this is one of the few ways to get promoted without relocating."

Five chief master sergeants traveled from across the nation to review packages June 20-21, which will compete for promotion to the grades of E-6 through E-9 at the August board. Chiefs Jeffrey Wilhite, Constance Copeland, Samuel Shaw, Maria Gomez and Amy Boothe served as board members for RMG's 2012 PEP Board.

IRs who clearly demonstrate outstanding potential and ability to serve in the next higher grade were considered.

"This board is held to keep the integrity of the program," said Danny Bretthorst, who handled preliminary work and served as recorder for the board.

"We received 10 more packages than last year," Bretthorst added. "One of the things that stood out this year was the well-written packages."

As always, a Community College of the Air Force degree plays a large role in getting promoted.

"Although bachelor and master's degrees are great achievements, it's the CCAF degrees that show they're focused on their jobs," Edwards said. "We're promoting you in your job, so it's great to have a job-related degree in your military records - a CCAF does just that."

Not only does a CCAF give an IR a leg up on the competition, updating personnel records is vital as well.

"We ask that all IRs review and verify they've checked their personnel records before submitting a package," Edwards said. "Having your military records current shows the board how badly you want it."

This was the first year a central board has been established for all ranks at Air Reserve Personnel Center, Buckley AFB, Colo. Last year, boards for E-6 and E-7 were held locally. The PEP board is scheduled to convene Aug. 13 at ARPC.
